A recent Maha Shivratri post by Sara Ali Khan sparked debate on social media. The actress wrote "Jai Bholenath" as the caption for a collection of photos she posted from her spiritual excursions.

Sara received harsh criticism from online trolls who labelled her a "improper Muslim" and "unworthy of having a Muslim name." In the comments section, the actress's fan supports her.

"Well done, Sara. May your path always be illuminated with the truth - not by those who wish to dominate you with fear," one user said.

"Some so-called hindu actresses never posted photographs of mahashivratri. Hats off to u Sara.. respect," read another comment in praise of Sara.

She was attacked for violating Islamic principles and practising "shirk." ". Shirk is referred to in Islam as polytheism or worshipping false gods. User said

Others asked her to change her name, while others questioned whether she practises Islam. One Instagram user referred to her as Jahannami Aurat which is Urdu meaning “a woman who belongs in hell".

Yet, Sara received a lot of help and support from her followers. The trolls were widely denounced with the claim that India is a secular country.
