India lost four wickets in the second session of the second Test against the West Indies, and Virat Kohli was instrumental in helping India regain the lead on Day 1.

On Day 1 of the second Test at Port-of-Spain, Virat Kohli celebrated a significant day by putting up a tenacious performance that helped India retake the lead over a determined West Indies team.

In the third session, after they lost four wickets in the first, Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja made sure that India didn't lose any more wickets. Kohli finished the day undefeated on 87 off 161 balls.

When stumps were called on Day 1 the partnership between Kohli and Jadeja was worth 106 for the fifth wicket.

In contrast to the first Test, where he scored 76 points and needed more than 80 balls to record his first boundary, Kohli was much more secure on Thursday.

Kohli made his debut in Trinidad with a four. Eventually, a cover-driven shot that went for four helped him reach his half-century.

He accomplished this feat by scoring a half-century in his 500th international match, becoming him the first player to do so.

The 500th international cricket match played by Kohli made him just the 10th player in history to reach that milestone.
