In the third and final ODI of the series against the West Indies on Tuesday at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad, Shubman Gill displayed exceptional form.
Gill struck an incredible 85 runs off 92 balls, highlighted by 11 magnificent fours. Gudakesh Motie, a left-arm spinner, ended his tenure in the middle, nevertheless.
Despite failing to reach the century mark, Gill's outstanding performance earned him Player of the Match honours and helped India defeat the West Indies 2-1 with a decisive 200-run victory.
Gill showed great poise, recognising the game's circumstances, and utilising his position as opener to give India a strong start. "It's all about playing the situation," he said.
It's your responsibility as the opener to get the team off to a strong start, and fortunately, I was able to achieve that. I believe that during the last game, I was prepared and seeking a huge one.
"I don't think about all those external factors," Gill said in a way that indicate that his only attention was still on the current game and that he intended to keep up his momentum despite them.
I simply try to do my best without worrying about who is playing or isn't playing. His outstanding performance has solidified him as a promising talent in Indian cricket.
