Unexpectedly, Hardik Pandya was named the Mumbai Indians' captain for the 2024 Indian Premier League on Friday, taking Rohit Sharma's place as the team's long-serving captain.

After 72 hours of high drama, Pandya announced this month that he has officially concluded an all-cash deal trade-off with the Gujarat Titans, returning to his "spiritual home" of the Mumbai Indians.

Prior to the 2022 auction, Pandya was selected by the Gujarat Titans from the pool of players available for the two new teams, the GT and the Lucknow Super Giants.

He coached the team to back-to-back finals, winning the title in his first year and falling short in a thrilling match against CSK in 2023. His stated fee was Rs 15 crore.

Pandya has been signed by the Mumbai Indians, who have one of the most organized team-building programs, with a long-term plan in mind because there will be a huge auction in 2025.
