When Mallika Sagar was a child growing up in Mumbai, she read a book about a female auctioneer who was the main character. This book introduced her to the field of auctioneering.

She is slated to become the first female auctioneer at the richest franchise cricket league in the world following a successful 23-year career in art auctioneering.

During the daylong event, over 300 cricket players would be executed, breaking away from a tradition that has only involved men. She is the first female to do this in history of IPL.

As one of the few female auctioneers in India, Sagar admitted that her introduction to the IPL auction may have come about accidentally through the first WPL auction in February.

Mallika, a specialist on modern Indian art headquartered in Mumbai. She began her career at Christie's in 2001 when she was hired as the British auction house's first female auctioneer of India.

On December 9, she presided over the Women's Premier League auction in Mumbai and led the Pro Kabaddi League 2021 sale.
