The attempt to form the first union of workers in an American warehouse in the southern US state of Alabama has taken a beating.
For this, the employees working for this have suffered a huge defeat in the election held in the city of Basimer on Friday.
However, those working for the workers have announced to challenge this outcome.
Labor officials said that only 738 people voted in favor of forming a union while 1,798 people opposed the proposal.
The entire voting process for Amazon was considered very important.
In fact, during Corona, Amazon’s behavior with its employees was being criticized all over the world as being bad.
What is the possibility next?
However, those who work for the workers say that they will challenge this result. They allege that the company intimidated the employees and also lied about the purpose of voting in the meetings, which is a violation of the right of employees to ‘free and clean election’.
According to him, with the intention of influencing the employees, the postal service was pressurized to build a mailbox in the company premises.
Stuart Appelbom, president of Retail, Wholesale and Large Store Union (RWLSU), said, “Amazon has spared no efforts to mislead its own employees. We cannot turn a blind eye to the company’s lies, fraud and illegal activities. So We will formally file a complaint against all the malicious and misdeeds of Amazon during the voting. ”
However, Amazon has denied that it pressured its employees to vote against forming a union.
The company has said that it tries its best to listen to the complaints and improve its standards. The company argues that union supporters are viewing this result from the point of view of an employee, not as a victory for the company.
In its statement, the company said, “We are not flawless. But we are proud of our team and our offer. We will continue to work to improve ourselves every day.”
After all, what do union supporters want?
If the attempt to form a union was successful, Amazon would have to talk to union leaders on issues like labor standards and wages. For the workers, this would have been a big challenge for this second big company of America after Walmart.
The leaders of RWLSU were hopeful that the company would be ready to form a union during the Corona after the business skyrocketed and the employees were exposed to new health risks. It would also have been a new standard for employees across the world of Amazon.
Union supporters raised the issue of civil rights and racial justice in the company in addition to their struggles in the warehouse. He realized that most of the people working in the warehouse are black.
