It was believed that Serum Institute of India, the world’s largest vaccine maker, would supply most of India’s need, as 25 million Indians were to be given a dose by July as part of the government’s ambitious vaccination program.
Even as a partner of the World Health Organization-led scheme, India exported the vaccine to needy countries. But three months have passed. The statistics of corona infection and death toll are increasing like a tsunami.
So far, about 26 million people in the country with a population of 1.4 billion have been completely given the vaccine of Korna. 12 crore 40 lakh people have received their first dose of Covid vaccine
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stopped exports. Has refused to fulfill international commitments. And even worse, the stock of vaccine in the country has almost reached the verge of ending. No one knows for sure when the new stock will arrive.
How did this situation happen in India?
When supply was low, then demand rose. When a large number of Indians were trying to register online on the portal prescribed for the Kovid vaccine, then its app crashed.
The third phase of the Kovid vaccination program has started in India from May 1, in which more than 600 million people between the ages of 18 and 44 are to be given the Corona vaccine. But the apps made for its online registration could not withstand this pressure.
Some people were getting OTP (one-time password), while some were not getting it. In a short time, #WaitingForOTP started trending on Twitter.
Eventually, the website started working for online registration and one crore 30 lakh people were able to register, but the disappointment was that there was not a single vaccine center for them where the vaccine was available.
This is a very small part of the 600 million people expected for the vaccine. There are also 200 million people whose age is more than 45 years and they have not yet received the second dose of vaccine.
