This April has not been the brightest for Bollywood, though some good films were released like October and Blackmail. None of the films could claim to have made a mark and cross hundred crores. The month started with Blackmail which has till now gathered a decent 20.20 crore while Varun Dhawan’s October has gathered 45 crores this month.
Varun Dhawan showed class and finesse in October and impressed the critics tremendously. He acted really well and has now made a mark in Bollywood as one of the most bankable stars in the Hindi film industry. His October gathered Rs 44.10 crore, which is the lowest for any of his previous films. Looks like he didn’t strike a chord with his audience this time around.
Amongst the Hollywood films, Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War and Dwayne Johnson’s Rampage released this month. Avengers has already made a mark with a collection of 94.30 crores within three days of its release and Johnson’s Rampage managed a decent 26.55 crore at the box office.
The other films released this month were acclaimed filmmaker Majid Majidi’s Beyond the Clouds which released on the 20th and starred Ishaan Khatter in the lead role. Only a niche audience was attracted to the film and otherwise, it went unnoticed at the box office. Similarly, Abhay Deol’s Nanu Ki Janu which was a horror comedy dint really strike a chord with the audience and failed at the box office.
Also Tabu and Manoj Bajpai’s thriller Missing and Sudhir Mishra’s retelling of Devdas, Das Dev also couldn’t impress the audience and went unnoticed.
The only bright spot this April, except Avengers was Tiger Shroff’s and Disha patani’s Baaghi 2 which released on 30th March and went on to become a big hit, collecting a mammoth 162 crore till now and is still going strong. It is the third film of 2018 to collect more than 100 crores after Padmaavat and Sonu KeTitu Ki Sweety.
