Chennai Super Kings defeated Kings XI Punjab by 5 wickets, in the 56th and the last league match of the VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018. This ended Kings XI’s IPL journey this year and helping Rajasthan Royals make it to the playoffs. 
Kings XI Punjab started poorly but soon regained ground by Tiwary and Miller’s partnership which was complimented with Nair’s cameo. Also, CSK suffered early loss as Punjab’s pacers bowled brilliantly, but slowly and steadily CSK made it back into the game.
Chennai was under control and Kings XI Punjab were out early as they could not maintain the 53 run plus margin to make it to the playoffs.
Raina made a 50 and CSK smashed the hopes of KXIP as they slowly marched towards victory. In the end overs, Raina gave the strike to Dhoni to finish the washout and the skipper did it in style smashing a six which sealed CSK’s berth in a meeting with SRH in the first playoff on Tuesday.
SRH are at the top spot and are followed by CSK, KKR and RR in the VIVO IPL point table and these teams have made it to the playoffs.
Chennai won the toss and put KXIP into bat. Gayle went soon and was followed by Finch and Lokesh Rahul. Manoj Tiwari and David Miller added some grace and substance to the KXI innings by creating a 50 runs partnership. Soon Jadeja dismissed Tiwary and Miller’s wicket too fell soon.
Wickets fell continuously but Nair held on on the other end to make his 50. The moment Nair fell the innings ended soon.
Finally, KXIP made a decent total of 153.
While chasing CSK lost opener Ambati Rayudu by a swinging delivery off Mohit Sharma.
Rajpoot took two wickets in succession he removed du Plessis and then Sam Billings for a duck.
The KXIP pacers tried tightening the noose around the CSK batting. Rajpoot took 2 wickets in his four overs and Ashwin struck removed Harbhajan off his first ball.
Finally, CSK just needed a run a ball and KXIP were desperate to get wickets as their chances looked hopeless.
Ultimately, KXIP were handed a defeat and this ended their journey in IPL 2018.
