The Nipah Virus has been all over the news currently because of the deaths it has caused and as it is spreading very fast. Moreover, most people are unaware of the virus and don’t have much information about it.

- Nipah Virus is a new emerging zoonosis which causes severe disease in both humans and animals. First identified in Malaysia and Singapore in 1998, it is now spreading at a rapid pace
- Nipah virus is associated with the inflammation of the brain which can cause severe fever and lead to a state of absolute confusion, disorientation and persistent drowsiness. If proper attention and medication is not provided this virus can also cause a coma in 24 to 48 hours.
- A headache, Fever, nausea, dizziness, drowsiness and confusion are the symptoms of the NiV.
- The virus spreads mainly through the human respiratory system and the risk of spreading is high if the patient coughs and sneezes.
- Also it is advised not to have Date palm sap as the chances of it carrying the virus are very high.
- Moreover, it is advised to stay away from Pigs as the virus also spreads through them especially when they cough.
- Also it is very important to take precaution when near an infected person and by no means should one come in contact with an infected person’s saliva, as that is the greatest carrier of the virus.
Although the virus is spreading fast if one takes the right precautions he can avoid being affected by it. Moreover, even if one family member has caught the virus, one should keep him in a secluded special room so that the infection does not spread and while in the room one should wear a face mask at all times.
