A new study has revealed that adolescents taking the contraceptive pill have a higher risk of symptoms associated with depression. Let us know that ever since the pill became available in Britain in 1962, researchers have been trying to understand the relationship between oral birth control and mood.
The study was conducted by Brigham and Women’s Hospital, University Medical Center Groningen and Leiden University Medical Center. Earlier, research has been done by these institutes on breast cancer, blood clots, weight gain.
According to a published study in the JAMA Psychiatric Magazine, researchers included girls between the ages of 16 and 25 years in the study. The researchers then said that adolescents taking the contraceptive pill showed more depression-related symptoms than others.
Research also revealed that 16-year-old girls had more symptoms of depression. The survey conducted on the symptoms of depression revealed problems of crying, sleeping, eating, committing suicide, sadness etc.
