Recently, a research conducted in Hyderabad has revealed that the size of the brain of the Indian people is somewhat smaller in length, width and density than the size of the brain of the people of Western and Eastern countries. During the research, the Indian Brain Atlas was prepared by Hyderabad IIIT for the first time. This research was done keeping in mind Alzheimer’s and other brain related diseases. It is expected that after this study, there will be a lot of help in understanding the problems related to brain. This research is published in a medical journal called Neurology India.
The study was carried out by researchers from International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H). According to Jayanthi Sivaswamy of the Center for Visual Information Technology, which works on this project, the Montreal Neurological Institute (MNI) template is used as a standard for monitoring brain-related diseases. According to the researchers, this template has been developed keeping in mind the Caucasian mind, which is not an idol pattern for screening diseases associated with the brains of Indian people.
According to Jayanthi Sivaswamy, because the brain size of Indian people is smaller in size than MNI, which has been revealed in many different scans. In such a situation, examining the Indian brain through MNI can be the cause of misdiagnosis. When we compressed the MRI image with the preloaded MNI image template, this came to light.
If you work more than 10 hours every day, then the risk of hair loss is more, we have strong evidence related to this research, from which we feel the need to study brain structure and related diseases. There is a need to create a large atlas, so that it can be understood that different types of brain size should be researched as normal.
Jayanti further said that all the templates that have been developed for brain size now include Chinese and Korean brain templates, but no relevant template for India-specific population was developed before that. The Hyderabad IIIT team made its first attempt in this direction. So that the Indian Brain Specific Atlas can be developed.
