Gold tea for ₹1 lakh: How much would you pay for a cup of masala chai? ₹10, ₹30, or maybe ₹300 if you’re at a fancy cafe? Well, in Dubai, people are paying the equivalent of ₹1 lakh for a cup of gold tea, served in pure silver teacups and topped with 24-carat gold leaf.
This extravagant creation, called ‘Gold Karak’ tea, is the brainchild of Indian-origin Sucheta Sharma, the owner of Boho Cafe. Located in the DIFC’s Emirates Financial Towers, the cafe has quickly captured attention for its unique offerings, including croissants dusted with gold and, of course, tea topped with gold leaf.
Dual Menu
Boho Cafe offers a dual menu: one with affordable Indian street food options, and the other featuring luxury indulgences for those willing to splurge. According to Khaleej Times, Sharma shared, “We wanted to create something extraordinary for those seeking indulgence, while also catering to the wider community.”
The Gold Karak tea is priced at 5,000 AED (approximately ₹1.1 lakh). The same price applies to Gold Coffee at the cafe. Each drink comes with a gold-dusted croissant and silverware, which customers can take home. However, for those who crave a taste of gold without breaking the bank, the Gold Karak tea can be enjoyed for 150 AED (around ₹3,500) if served without the silver teacups.
