Rishabh Pant got Bangalore to bat first by winning the toss in the 22nd match of IPL 2021. After Virat, Padikkal and Maxwell were dismissed, AB de Villiers played a very fast innings in the last three overs.
Bangalore scored 171 runs for five wickets. De Villiers scored 75 runs off 42 balls with the help of five sixes, three fours.
Delhi chased down the target and only six runs came off the bat of Orange cap striker Shikhar Dhawan and they were dismissed in the third over. Steve Smith also returned soon after the summit.
From the other end, Prithvi Shaw made some good shots but could not make his 21-run innings bigger. Prithvi was dismissed by Harshal Patel.
After this, captain Rishabh Pant and Marcus Stoinis added 45 runs for the fourth wicket. Patel was caught out behind the wicket by Stoinis on a personal score of 22.
Hetmyer made a splash and the thrill of the last over
Then Hetmyer came and started opening his hands. Constantly hit fours, sixes and so played a stormy innings, bringing Delhi to the threshold of victory.
In the last over, Delhi were required to score 14 runs to win and were putting it on behalf of Bangalore by Mohammad Siraj.
Pant took a run on the first ball.
Hetmyer took a single on the second.
The third ball was dot.
Pant scored two runs on the fourth. If only four runs were scored on four balls, then 10 runs were needed to win on the last two balls.
Pant hit a four on the fifth ball. Six runs were to be scored for victory on the last ball but Pant could hit only fours and Bangalore’s team won by 1 run in IPL 2021.
Delhi scored 170 runs for four wickets in 20 overs. Pant did not get out till the end by scoring 58 runs from 48 balls. At the same time, Hetmyer scored an unbeaten 53 off just 25 balls.
Harshal Patel took two wickets from Bangalore. Mohammad Siraj and Kyle Jameson got one wicket each.
IPL 2021: What happened in Bangalore’s innings?
Earlier Bangalore started well during the batting. 25 runs were scored in the first three overs. But on the last balls of the fourth over and the first balls of the fifth over, captain Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal were out.
Avesh Patel bowled Virat and Ishant Sharma bowled Padikkal. Virat contributed 12, Paddikkal contributed 17 runs.
Then came Glenn Maxwell. Fours, sixes were also made, but in the 9th over, Amit Mishra was caught by Steve Smith at long on. Maxwell scored 25 runs off 20 balls.
