a maximum of 50 Japanese soldiers raped and sexually abused these women in one day. (Symbolic photo- Reuters)
Many of the afflicted women had sexually transmitted diseases
while many women had also become pregnant involuntarily.
The court said in the judgment that making these women sex slaves was a crime against humanity.
The victim’s women filed a petition in the court in 2013. (Symbolic photo- Reuters)
Japan has opposed the court’s decision.
Japan says that the issue of compensation for war has been resolved in a 1965 agreement.
But the court says that Japan illegally occupied Korean territory between 1910 and 1945, during which women were made sex slaves.
Therefore, despite being an autonomous country,
Japan cannot escape the case. (Symbolic photo- Reuters)
About 240 women from South Korea who were made sex slaves had registered with the government.
However, now only 16 of them are alive
At the same time, out of the 12 women who had filed the lawsuit, eight have died.
At the same time, 20 women have filed a separate lawsuit against Japan,
whose decision can come next week. However,
experts say that it is unlikely that Japan will accept the decision of the South Korean court. (Symbolic photo- Reuters)
