At Feroz Shah Kotla stadium on Monday, Delhi Daredevils lost to Kings XI Punjab in a nail-biting finish, in the Daredevils first home game of the Indian Premier League 2018. Daredevils lost by four runs.
Daredevils scorecard reads as five defeats in six matches which has sent them to the bottom of the IPL table. On the other hand Kings XI Punjab leaped to the top slot of this year’s IPL with 10 points
The Daredevils needed 17 runs off the last over while chasing and Shreyas Iyer courageously hit 12 of the first five balls and then young and promising spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman dismissed him of the last ball to top Delhi Daredevils at 139/8, 5 runs short of victory.
Shreyas Iyer was the ace scorer and he scored an unbeaten 57 off 45 balls hitting a six and five boundaries. While for Kings XI Punjab the bowlers did well with Ankit Rajpoot taking 2/23 and Andrew Tye taking 2/25, while Barinder Sram also pitched in with 1/45
Daredevils were chasing a reasonably low target of 144 and Prithvi Shaw gave them a great start hitting 3 boundaries off Sran and taking the score to 24 after 2 overs. Shaw scored 22 off 10 balls before he was dismissed by Rajpoot in the next over.
Rajpoot also dismissed Glen Maxwell for 12 in his next over which was a big hit to the Daredevils in their run chase. Then Tye bagged the prized wicket of Gautam Gambhir as he managed to score 4 off thirteen balls and was struggling with his timing.
DareDevils were 61 for four in 8 overs and it was then that Rishab Pant dismissed Mujeeb b y clean boiding him with his very first delivery of his first over.
Daniel Christian was run out in the 12th over and now the Daredevils needed 68 off 48 deliveries.
Iyer kept the scoreboard going by scoring runs and hitting boundaries and he was supported well by Rahul Tewatia who scored twenty-four off just 21 deliveries and hit a six and a four. Both together added 47 runs and took Delhi Daredevils to 123 for 6 at eighteen overs.
In the penultimate over Sran gave away just four singles and also took a wicket to take the game away from the Daredevils.
After they won the toss Daredevils came up with a good bowling attack to restrict the Kings XI to 143 for 8 wickets.
Plunket bowled well and took 3 for 17 while Boult took 2/21 and Avesh Khan took 2/36 and Christian pitched in with a wicket for 17 runs.
For Kings XI Punjab Karun Nair was the best scorer scoring 34 off 32 deliveries while Chris Gayle was sitting out of the game because of a sore back but his presence was definitely missed by the Kings XI team.
Avesh was quick to dismiss Aaron in the second over but the Kings XI dint lose hope and did well to reach 42 runs in 4.3 overs with KL Rahul scoring 23 off 15 deliveries but he was too dismissed early.
