Ravi Teja’s much-anticipated action-drama Mr Bachchan, which premiered in theatres on August 15, 2024, has now made its way to Netflix after a lukewarm box office reception. Directed by Harish Shankar, the film, which had created a significant buzz before its release, failed to meet audience expectations in cinemas despite the star power of Ravi Teja.
Streaming Online After Box Office Struggle
Mr Bachchan is now available to stream on Netflix in multiple languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. The film is an official Telugu adaptation of the 2018 Hindi hit Raid, which starred Ajay Devgn in the lead role. While the Telugu version infused its own style and elements, it couldn’t replicate the success of the original.
Plot and Cast Details
The film centers on an Income Tax officer, played by Ravi Teja, who takes on a corrupt MP, portrayed by Jagapathi Babu. The story focuses on the officer’s daring raid on the MP’s residence, unveiling a web of corruption and power struggles. Bhagyashri Borse, making her Tollywood debut, plays Jikki, the love interest of Ravi Teja’s character. The film also features notable performances from Subhalekha Sudhakar, Satya, and Sachin Khedekar.
Underwhelming Box Office Performance
Despite a compelling storyline and Ravi Teja’s strong fan base, Mr Bachchan struggled to attract audiences to theatres. Released on Independence Day, the film faced stiff competition from several other major releases, contributing to its underperformance. After a 27-day theatrical run, Mr Bachchan concluded its box office journey with disappointing numbers.
Ravi Teja and Harish Shankar’s Return Fees
In response to the film’s financial losses, lead actor Ravi Teja and director Harish Shankar reportedly returned a portion of their fees to mitigate the damage. Ravi Teja is said to have returned ₹4 crore, while Harish Shankar refunded ₹2 crore, a significant gesture aimed at reducing the burden on the producers.
Now Streaming on Netflix
With its OTT release, Mr Bachchan now has a chance to reach a wider audience. The film’s availability across multiple languages is expected to attract viewers who may have missed its theatrical run. Despite its box office struggle, the movie’s streaming debut provides an opportunity for audiences to appreciate the performances and storyline at their convenience.
As Mr Bachchan makes its way to homes via Netflix, fans of Ravi Teja and Telugu cinema can now catch the action-packed drama online.
