At least 17 people have died and hundreds have been injured in a series of blasts in Equatorial Guinea
According to the Ministry of Health, at least 420 people were injured on Sunday in a serial blast near a military barrack in Bata, the major city of Equatorial Guinea (equatorial Guinea).
In relation to the blast, the President said that the blasts occurred due to negligence in storage of dynamite kept in the barracks.
There are some pictures of the accident on social media, in which dense smoke is seen over the city.
Some of the footage which has appeared in the government television shows that people are helping the casualties and trying to evacuate people from the collapsed buildings.
The Health Ministry has asked the volunteer health workers to take the injured to the local hospital in Bata by tweeting. People have also been appealed to come forward to help the injured and donate blood.
Three hospitals have been listed for the injured. Where serious and very serious people are being taken.
Due to the increasing number of injured, some hospitals have been completely filled. The number of injured is so high that people are also lying on the floor of the hospital.
A local told the news agency AFP – “We heard the blast and shortly after that the smoke started but we did not know what happened.”
French Ambassador Olivier Broschen has expressed condolences to the victims by tweeting and called the accident a ‘catastrophe’.
A statement issued by the Spanish Embassy appealed to the citizens of their country to stay in their homes. Several emergency numbers have also been issued by the embassy.
