Data from the German company Biontech and the US pharmaceutical company Pfizer’s corona vaccine (COVID-19 Vaccine) have been ‘illegally accessed’ during a cyber attack on the European Medicine Agency’s server.
The companies themselves have given information about this. Amsterdam’s agency has filed an appeal with the European Union’s medicine regulator for the use of its corona virus vaccine. The company said on Wednesday that its vaccine had been cyber attacked.
The EMA declined to provide information about the attack and investigations into the case are on. The two companies subsequently issued a statement stating that some documents related to the Pfizer and Biontech’s Corona vaccine, BNT 162B2, were illegally accessed on the EMA server. He said that no system connected to Biontech or Pfizer has been breached in connection with the incident. They have also stated that no information has been received that people involved in our study have been identified as a result of access to the data.
The companies said that at this time we are waiting for more information regarding the investigation of EMA. Will respond to this appropriately and in accordance with EU law. The EMA has assured us that there will be no impact on the deadline for cyber attack review. The vaccine, made by Pfizer and Biontech, received permission for emergency use in the UK last week and Wednesday in Canada.
The US FDA is expected to consider submission for approval on Thursday. This is not the first time a cyber attack has occurred on the corona virus vaccine’s data. Last month, Microsoft said it has detected attempts by Russian and North Korean hackers to steal valuable data from major pharmaceutical companies and vaccine researchers.
