Veteran Congress leader Rajiv Shukla, who has been vice-president for six years and IPL chairman for many years, will again become the vice-president of the Indian Cricket Association (BCCI). Former Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) former secretary Shukla went to the board headquarters in Mumbai and filed his nomination on Thursday.
No one has nominated him to this post, so it has been decided that he will be elected as the vice-president. It will be officially announced at the BCCI Annual General Assembly (AGM) to be held in Ahmedabad on 24th.
The vice-chair had been vacant since the resignation of Uttarakhand Cricket Association Secretary Mahim Verma. Apart from this, Brajesh Patel and Majumdar filed papers for the member of IPL Governing Council. Only two people have filled the form for two posts, so there will be no election. Both of them are also currently members of the IPL Governing Council. With this, it was also decided that Patel would continue to be the chairman of the IPL Governing Council.
It is known that in the elections held last year, Sourav Ganguly was elected Chairman, Jai Shah Secretary, Jayesh George Joint Secretary, Mahim Verma Vice President and Arun Singh Dhumal Treasurer. Earlier this year, Mahim resigned from the post and since then the post was vacant. According to the decision of the Supreme Court on the recommendations of the Lodha Committee, a member cannot hold two posts. Mahim stepped down as BCCI vice-president to become the secretary of the Uttarakhand Cricket Association.
Shukla represents Uttar Pradesh in BCCI. As his vice-president, cricket activities will increase in Uttar Pradesh and BCCI will also benefit from his experience. Rajiv would have become the vice-president only last year, but then the election officer had thrown a technical screw on his candidature, after which Mahim was made the vice-president at the behest of Rajiv Shukla.
