The Madan Lal-led Cricket Advisory Committee at the BCCI suggested the name of Ramesh Powar for the coach of the Indian Women’s Cricket Team. After this, the BCCI stamped his name. Former Indian spinner Ramesh Powar had previously been the coach of the women’s team but had resigned from the post due to lack of coordination with the senior players.
Giving information about this by the BCCI itself, it has been told that Powar has been appointed the new coach of the women’s team. After this, the BCCI stamped his name. The board also said that 35 applications had come for this post.
It is notable that Powar was the coach of the team before WV Raman. The 42-year-old coach resigned after an altercation with Mithali Raj. WV Ramesh Powar worked very well with the India Women’s team. The team reached the final of the T20 World Cup last year.
Extensive discussion in interview
On Wednesday, Madan Lal and Sulakshana Naik interviewed current coach WV Raman, former coach Ramesh Powar and former India players Ajay Ratra and Hrishikesh Kanitkar. The interview process was delayed as CAC member RP Singh could not attend Wednesday due to his father’s demise.
CAC chief Madan Lal had told PTI on Wednesday that all four male candidates had prepared well. Interviews for each candidate lasted 30 minutes, with extensive discussion on creating a roadmap for next year’s ODI World Cup. Creating a pool of players to increase bench strength was also one of the major points of discussion. Ramesh Powar has taken 34 wickets for India in 31 ODIs and 6 wickets in 2 Tests.
