Royal Challengers Bangalore scored a much-needed win on Tuesday at the Chinnaswamy stadium as Umesh Yadav cranked up pace and sliced through the Mumbai Indian’s top order.
The RCB’s 14 run victory is their 3rd of the season and it puts them on top of Mumbai Indians on the points table in this year’s IPL. RCB has ended up with 6 points while Mumbai Indians have 4.
Umesh was in full form and it was a surprise that he wasn’t playing on India’s tour of South Africa. He began the tournament well, on Tuesday he took key wickets and provided breakthroughs to put RCB on a back footing.
For some time it looked as is RCB will have it easy, but Hardik Pandya shifted gears and hit some powerful strokes and helped the MI reach close to the total.
Umesh dismissed Kishan in the very first over and then went on to get the wickets of Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit. The other bowler Mohammed Siraj then took the wicket of Pollard to leave Mumbai Indians at 47 for 4.
Virat Kohli the captain of RCB was able to bring on spin bowlers as the first few wickets went cheap and Chahal fared well although he didn’t pick any wickets he kept the run flow in control.
The RCB team managed an averagely decent total of 167/7 in their 20 overs and Brendon McCullum and Virat Kohli kept the tempo high and scored 60 runs in under six overs to see that RCB reach a respectable total.
Of the 10th, 11th, and 12th over the duo scored 42 runs and it was looking like they will reach 180 at one time.
Hardik who was totally cleaned off by McCullum in his first over where he went for 17 hit a direct throw from mid-off to run the former Kiwi captain out.
Soon the wickets of Mandeep Singh and Virat went down off successive deliveries and the RCB team could not reach 180 and managed only 167.
It was Colin de Grandhomme’s 3 sixes in the last over which helped get the RCB a respectable total eventually.
