Sabrina Lall has forgiven Manu Sharma and does not object to his release, this is twelve years after Manu was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for killing Jessica Lall, who was a model, for denying him alcohol at a party in Delhi. According to Sabrina Manu’s conviction was a closure for her and she wanted to let go of the baggage and move on
Sabrina Lall in a letter has written to the respective welfare officer of Delhi’s Tihar Jail, where Manu has been serving his sentence for the last 12 years that “I am told that in this period he has been doing good work for charity and helping inmates in jail which I feel is a reflection of reform… I would like to state I have no objection to his release, owing to the fact that he has spent 15 years in jail,”
The 49-year-old, Sabrina told NDTV “I have been hearing from common friends that he has been doing good work in jail and believe he has reformed. I have no issues if he is released”.
“My family has suffered a lot and this is a load off my chest.”
Manu has been sent to open jail for displaying good conduct. The 40 plus Manu is allowed to leave the prison premises daily for work and he has to return in the evening.
He has been working for an NGO in his name especially set up for the rehabilitation of convicts and their children.
He is the son of former Congress politician Venod Sharma and was convicted for shooting and killing Jessica in a private party in 1999.
Jessica refused him a drink and an angry Manu and shot her at point-blank range according to witnesses.
He was acquitted by a trial court and this sparked protests all over the country and the case was readmitted in 2006 in Delhi High Court. Manu was held guilty with the witness’s statements and the high court overlooked the lower court to award him death sentence.
Sharma has spent around 15 years in prison since the time he was arrested.
