Sunrisers Hyderabad tuned the tables around after a dismal batting performance against Kings XI Punjab and bowled out Kings XI for a mere 118 to stage a 13 run victory.
Rashid Khan was the showstopper as the Afghan leg-spinner took 3 for 19 with 11 dot balls in a performance of a lifetime at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Thursday. This was a remarkable comeback by Rashid who went for 55 runs in Mohali against Mumbai Indians.
Sunrisers manages a low score of 132 for six in their twenty overs and the Kings XI were up to a firey start with Chris Gayle in his element and KL Rahul joining the party. The party got over as Rashid bowled Rahul and knocked out his off stump with a peach of a delivery.
Gayles wicket fell as Basil Thampi took a brilliant catch and from 57 for two in the 9th over, Kings XI were reduced to 91 for 5 after the fifteenth over.
Some clever bowling by Shakib Al Hasan saw the Kings XI cream tumbling as they crashed out for 119 all out.
While batting first Sunrisers Hyderabad were struggling from the beginning as Mayank Agarwal, Karun Nair, Aaron Finch and Manoj Tiwary all proved inadequate, and the only shining star was Manish Pandey who scored a 54 off 51 deliveries hitting one six and 3 fours. He also made a 52 run partnership with Shakib to help Sunrisers get to a relatively low total of 132 for 6.
Ankit Rajpoot bowled splendidly and took 5 wickets for 14 runs and was the start in the Kings XI bowling attack. In his four overs, he gave 3-0-9-3. And reduced the Sunrisers for 27 for 3 in the first five overs.
Captain Williamson failed miserably and Shikhar Dhawan who looked in form in his brief knock was gobbled up by Nair at the slips.
Wriddhiman Saha couldn’t score again and Shakib cut him uppishly and straight to the third man Agarwal.
