The first bird flu death in India this year, Delhi’s AIIMS Reports, an 11-year-old boy (susheel) who was undergoing treatment for Avian Influenza has died. This is the first bird flu death recorded in the country in this year.
According to the AIIMS doctor, the child was infected with the virus. 11-year-old was the first case of H5N1 or Avian flu in India. The child was admitted to AIIMS on July 2. The child was admitted in ward D-5. died during treatment on Monday. The entire staff at AIIMS, has been placed in isolation.
Speaking to news agency ANI, AIIMS officials said, “The 12-year-old boy being treated at the hospital’s D5 ward was found to be infected with H5N1 (Avian flu) after the diagnosis. The boy was suffering from leukemia and pneumonia. He was under treatment and admitted to the ICU of AIIMS in Delhi.” All staff who had exposure to him should monitor themselves for any signs and symptoms of flu and should report if any are present,” they added.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), human cases of H5N1 occur “occasionally“. spread of bird flu is not common ,but if infected, the mortality rate is about 60%. It is usually difficult to transmit the infection from person to person.

The full form of H5N1 is Highly Pathogenic Asian Avian Influenza (H5N1) Virus. Bird flu can spread to humans through the droppings, saliva and secretion of the infected bird and the person are at risk who eat uncooked or half-cooked poultry products. Therefore, it is advisable to avoid contaminated surfaces.
