Uttarakhand's

There is a network of hydropower projects spread over the rivers of Uttarakhand. Along with 39 projects including Tehri, 32 small and big projects of UJVNL and Uttarakhand’s projects of various companies are also included in this.  Supreme Court has banned 24 projects

The government of Uttarakhand had approved more than two dozen hydroelectric projects between 2005 and 2010.

The completion of these projects costing thirty thousand crores will generate 2944.80 MW of electricity. The case of 24 small and big hydro projects by NGOs one by one reached the Supreme Court.

This case has also reached the NGT. The 12-member committee of experts was constituted by the Union Forest and Environment Ministry on the court’s order. After several months of study, the committee submitted its report to the ministry.
