Steve Smith, the former Australian captain gave his own emotional media conference on Thursday. Smith was also awarded a 12-month ban while batsman Bancroft was suspended for nine months for their part if the scandal, which rocked Australia.

Darren Lehman, the Australian coach was reduced to tears, as he announced that he was stepping down as coach after the South Africa series due to the scandal.

According to Cricket Australia, Investigations Warner was found to be the main instigator of the plan to tamper with the ball during the third Test against South Africa last week.

While answering questions on his role in the scandal Warner replied with a pre-crafted line about taking “full responsibility for the part I played in this”.

When Warner was asked if he had been made a scapegoat for the affair, he took a long pause and looked up and answered “As I said before,” he said. “I’m here to speak about myself and take responsibility for the part that I played in this.” He answered this with Smith apparently already on the road to redemption after his news conference, and Bancroft cast as the junior player led astray by his vice-captain.

This scandal has shocked the cricketing world and its repercussions will be far fledged. As of now members of the team responsible for the scandal seem to be in an apologetic mood. Only time will tell whether their apologies effect the future of Australian cricket
