India has so far seen four cases of the Omicron sub-variant BF.7, the Covid strain that is responsible for the recent spike in infections in China.

Two cases from Gujarat and two from Odisha have so far been reported in which the BF.7 variation has been found. The US, the UK, as well as European countries have already reported finding it.

Despite the government's advice to wear masks in crowded locations, there is no need to fear, according to Adar Poonawalla of vaccine manufacturer Serum Institute of India (SII).

In order to determine the variant or sub-variant, the union government has also requested that states send samples to labs for genome sequencing.

India recorded 129 new infections over the previous 24 hours, as reported on Wednesday, and there are currently 3,408 active cases. Over the past 24 hours, one death has been noted.

Omicron sub-lineage BF.7, which has a shorter incubation period and is highly transmissible, has the strongest infection ability, according to news agency PTI.
