At the 66th Grammy Awards, singer-composer Shankar Mahadevan and Indian tabla legend Zakir Hussain were recognised for their contributions to the worldwide fusion music scene with Grammy prizes.

For the studio album This Moment, released in 2023 by their fusion band Shakti, Shankar and Zakir won the Grammy in the best Global Music Album category.

Alongside Béla Fleck, Edgar Meyer, and Rakesh Chaurasia, Zakir went on to win another prize in the best global music performance category for the song Pashto.

For his album As We Speak, virtuoso flute Rakesh won two awards: Best Contemporary Instrumental and Best Global Music Performance.

Shakti's third studio album, This Moment, has eight tracks. After 46 years, the band made a comeback to the global music industry with this record.

Shakti, which combines jazz and Indian music styles, features guitarist John McLaughlin from England, violinist Ganesh Rajagopalan, and percussionists Zakir and V Selvaganesh.
