India defeated Australia by six wickets on Sunday in Chennai to begin its World Cup 2023 campaign. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul once again outdid themselves.
After India was reduced to 2-3 in the second over, Rahul returned unbeaten on 97(115), and Kohli slammed 85(116), as the pair stitched a crucial 165(215)-run stand for the fourth wicket.
In the meantime, the spinners Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, and Kuldeep Yadav from India contributed to India's victory by holding Australia to a meagre 199/10 in 49.3 overs.
Two of Jadeja's three wickets, which he took for a total of 28 runs, fell in the same over. While Ravichandran Ashwin only took one, Kuldeep took two.
With three key wickets, Ravindra Jadeja stood out as the player to watch. Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah also contributed with two each.
