In the opening game at Buffalo Park in East London, Indian women defeated South African women by a score of 27 runs.

Amanjot Kaur (41 *), making her T20 International tri-series debut, and Deepti Sharma (33 and three wickets) gave India's women's cricket squad a successful start.

South Africa had a difficult time starting their chase of the 148 run mark. In the second over of the innings, Deepti Sharma caught starter Laura Wolvaardt (6) on her own ball.

The Proteas suffered another setback when Rajeshwari Gaikwad had Anneke Bosch (2) caught by Yadav in the fifth over.

From this point, the third wicket partnership of Marijane Kapp (22) and captain Sun Luce (29) contributed 27 runs.

Devika Vaidya provided India an important victory by luring Cap into a trap set by Rana. Unfortunately, Captain Luce was run out and had to go back to the dugout.
