Virat Kohli, the star batsman for India, on Sunday tied Sachin Tendulkar for the most ODI hundreds with his 49th hundred during their World Cup match against South Africa.
At the 49th over of the Indian innings, Kohli reached the benchmark when he struck a single off Kagiso Rabada in front of raucous supporters chanting his name at Eden Gardens.
With this, the Indian maestro continued his strong run of form in the competition and put another feather to his already renowned crown. He scored the century same as his idol Sachin Tendulkar.
After facing 121 balls and making 10 strokes to the fence in his knock, he was still undefeated at 101. While Kohli took 277 innings to hit 49th century, Tendulkar took 452 innings.
Since the Indian team arrived in the City of Joy, home to one of cricket's most recognisable stadiums, anticipations have grown here.
Kohli came dangerously close to scoring his 49th century in an ODI before India's Thursday night encounter against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium.
