a petrol pump in Bihar’s Raxaul city, bordering India-Nepal. Till four years ago, seven to eight thousand liters of diesel and petrol were sold daily. But these days, his sales have come down from 15 hundred to two thousand liters daily.
This is not because vehicles have decreased in Raxaul city, but because it has increased smuggling in the border areas due to cheaper diesel-petrol from India in the neighboring country Nepal and locals go to Nepal in their vehicles for diesel-petrol Getting stuffed.
On Thursday, Nepal Sentinel soldiers seized 1360 liters of petrol carrying tankers and arrested three people on the border of Raxaul in Bihar adjacent to Veerganj, which is called the industrial capital of Nepal.
“The border is mostly open.
That is why smugglers are bringing uncontrolled gallons and oil in drums to India. Also, petrol and diesel are being brought in large trucks and tankers by road. Whatever local people It is very easy for him to go to Nepal and fill oil. He who is not able to go out of fear, he is filling oil from here. ”
According to the reporter, “If prices continue to increase in this way and smuggling is not curbed, then all the petrol pumps around the border will have to be closed. It is difficult for us to take care of maintenance and staff expenses.”
On Saturday, diesel was cheaper by Indian rupees by 27.50 rupees as compared to India in Veerganj city of Nepal, adjacent to Raxaul border, while the price of petrol was 23 rupees less.
Nepal buys all petroleum products (petrol, diesel, domestic gas) from India for its own consumption.
According to statistics, Nepal Oil Corporation purchases 71673 kiloliters of oil from India every year. Indian Oil Corporation is its partner company in India. The areas of Nepal that touch India, IOC also does the work of supply and distribution in those areas.
But why Nepal still has such cheap diesel-petrol?
a petrol pump owner with a long experience in the oil business, says, “The price at which crude oil India buys, Nepal also buys at the same price. But, the oil tax system is different from India there. In Nepal, only one tax is levied on oil in the whole country, whereas we first get the excise duty of the center and then the VAT is levied in the states. Besides, there is a tax in Nepal, that too in India. Excise duty is much less. One reason for this is that whatever oil goes into Nepal from India, it refines. ”
A tax of about 40 rupees per liter of oil is being charged in Nepal at present. It has taxes like pollution control, petroleum infrastructure, road maintenance and infrastructure. Whereas the central excise duty imposed on oil in India and the VAT of the states goes beyond 50 rupees.
